The 21st edition of Tirana International Film Festival – Oscar® & European Film Awards qualifying will be held from September 23-29, 2023.

The Best Short Film will be eligible for the Oscars® 2024 & the European Film Awards 2023.

Student films officially selected at TIFF are eligible to compete for Student Academy® Awards (SAA).

This year’s calendar has been enriched with an exclusive special program:

  • RetrospectTIFF

Tribute to Satyajit Ray, widely considered as one of the greatest filmmakers of all time, awarded Academy® Honorary Award, 1992, Career Golden Lion Venice, 1982.


o Andreas Dresen, winner of the Un Certain Regard Award at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. Program with 4 films from the filmography of the German director, who will present his films in the cinema and will also hold a Masterclass.

o SWEDISH Stories – with three of the most successful Swedish films of the last two years, where “I Am Zlatan” stands out with the Albanian actor Granit Rushiti in the main role of Ibrahimovic.


o SCREENPLAY ContesTIFF aims to evaluate from our partner producers and distributors the best and most likely screenplay to be produced by them with the greatest chances of successful distribution in the most important international short film festivals.

Our partners have nominated 10 scripts for Pitching and at the Awards Ceremony, September 29, 2023, they will reward the winning scripts with the Distribution Award and the possibility of signing a production or distribution contract with the winners.

  • KIDs Program

is an annual program dedicated to children from 5-10 and 11+ years old with 36 short films. The “Tonin Harapi” Hall of the Artistic High School will be available for this program where the winners will be chosen by the children’s votes.


with thematic and alternative sections such as GENERATIONs, NEW WORLD, DIVERGENT MINDs, PARADE and Reflecting Albania.


From 3,500 films and 77 scripts, which submitted this year from 112 countries of the world, 192 films were selected, of which 158 short films and 34 feature-length films and 10 scripts. All the films selected are National Premieres, but there are also many World, International, European and Regional Premieres.


The official competition consists of full-length films: Feature, PerspecTIFF, Documentary and

Short Films: Live Action, Animation, Documentary, Video Art & Experimental, Students, Balkan shorts as well as In ALBANIA.

These films will be evaluated by 4 international juries formed by personalities of the cinematographic industry, such as:

Marta Minorowicz, director (Poland), Constantine Giannaris, director (Greece), Ylljet Aliçkaj, screenwriter (Albania), Marie-Christine Hartig, curator and mediator in film and art (Austria), Cristina Haneș, director and producer (Romania), Sangeeta Datta, director, critic and musician (India), Cyrus Neshvad, director (Luxembourg) member of the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences, USA, Beatrice Baldacci, director (Italy), Kaveh Mazaheri, director (Iran), Can Merdan Doğan, director (Turkey), Neritan Zinxhiria, director (Greece), Marek Wesolowski, director of photography (Poland).

For the second time the PANORAMA section will be in competition and the jury will be composed of representatives of our institutional and media partners: Jonid Jorgji from Tirana Municipality, Irena Prici from the Ministry of Culture, Arben Lami from National Film Center and Jona Hasija from TOP channel.


The Galà Opening Ceremony will be organized on September 23, 18:00hrs at the Millenium Cinema. After the cocktail and pleasant surprises for the guests, the program will continue with the national premiere of the film Kaymak by the well-known director Milcho Manchevski, whom we are honored to have in Tirana to present to the audience and the media the second film of the trilogy and his next projects in collaboration with Tirana Film Institute.

The Awards Ceremony will be held on September 29, at 20:00 at the Millenium Cinema.


The films and events of this edition will be screened in the Millenium Cinema, the AGIMI Art Center, Open Air Cinema Millenium, the Hall “Tonin Harapi” near the Artistic High School as well as online for the many followers who cannot attend and travel freely in Albania.
