Synopsis

"Nuwebe" (English title: Termitaria) is inspired by the true story of one of the youngest mothers in Philippine history. Krista was only 9 years old when she became pregnant. Her mother believes that she was impregnated by evil supernatural creatures called "nuno sa punso" but the real story is more complicated than it seems.

 

 

Filmography

Joseph Israel Laban is a Tagalog filmmaker and journalist. He directed, wrote and produced, the short film “Antipo” which premiered at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner. He also directed, wrote and produced the 2011 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival finalist “Cuchera”, which was screened at the Discovery Section of the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival. It has since been screened in a number of other festivals including Stockholm, Fribourg, Cleveland and Belgrade. He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Creative Writing from the University of the Philippines and a master’s degree in documentary filmmaking at New York University on a Fulbright Scholarship.

His awards include a Gold World Medal at the 2008 New York Festivals for Television, two Silver World Medals at the 2012 New York Festivals for Television, a Silver Screen Award at the 2008 US International Film and Video Festival, an Ani ng Dangal Award from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, and finalist citations at the 2012 PopDev Television Awards and the 2013 CASBAA/ABU UNICEF Child Rights Award.
